Restoration Calls (2018) is a series investigating the use of command words and text as a way of engaging the audience in a piece of work.

Th title piece is based on a speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933). The text was used as a way of reflecting on how not much in the world has changed between now and then with similar themes reoccurring in his speech that are still discussed today. This one line stood out to me whilst being projected over a series of news articles leading it to become the title piece for the series. The redaction is used to show how we don't always know the full story and how elements of the truth will always be left out.

The collages feature text cut from newspaper headlines and are placed on found surfaces. The photographs are then manipulated to making the colours more enticing and give them the appearance of authority. The viewer is left thinking that they need to enact these commands and makes them think about what tasks they relate to the words.
